What makes a love story capable of speaking to readers of different ages, crossing adolescence, identity, friendship, fragility and self-discovery? Heartstopper, the series by Alice Oseman published in Italy by Oscar Ink, has become a point of reference in contemporary comics for the delicate, direct and deeply empathetic way it tells the story of Nick and Charlie and the emotional world around them.
For us at RAM, this was a particularly meaningful project, as it allowed us to work on a central element of the book’s editorial quality: the lettering. In a series like Heartstopper, built from dialogue, silences, hesitations, messages, small gestures and shifts in tone, the lettering must accompany the reading naturally, without weighing down the line or altering the delicacy of the story.
We worked to ensure that the Italian texts integrated harmoniously into the pages, respecting the original rhythm, readability and emotional dimension of the narrative. Our work aimed to preserve the freshness and immediacy of the series, giving Italian readers a fluid, coherent reading experience that remains true to its spirit.
